After working as a HAIRDRESSER FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS, you can bet I’ve heard it all… those are the secrets I’ll be taking to the grave. Here in my hair chair, I like to talk about things that really matter to everyday people.

When I started on this journey I was just fifteen years old. My parents gave me this BOLD , (clearing my throat) let’s call it like it is…COLD and CLEAR statement when I was growing up. They said “ you’re not living here past the day you turn 18, so you best figure out how you’re gonna pay the bills.” I wasn’t alone I mean this is actually what they said to all the kids in the family, so no one felt left out. So, I did what any other self-respecting, middle class income family member, who had never had another college graduate go before them would do, I went to beauty school.

I have to say I was pretty lucky landing there at Vintage Academy of hair design in Napa California, I was just 15. I spent the summer busting through freshman class and then got on the floor right as my junior year in high school began. I found a flair and love for hair and more so for all the ladies that would sit in my chair. I was so honored to be requested by them and hear the rumors flying fast about how I was the best student in the academy at doing the “Italian top,” roller set, my first claim to fame.

All this to say, after more that 30 years behind the chair, I’m ready to share this unique and special connection that I have with people, being a hairdresser. Don’t worry, the secrets are in the vault and they’ll be going to the grave with me. Everything else is open for discussion. I hope to inspire even one person to embrace their perfectly flawed life and start celebrating their own unique beauty. Let’s seek connection to things that really matter and start letting go of the crap that doesn’t. monixo
